Certified Training Centers (CTC).
The worldwide demand for Gracie or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction continues to grow at a phenomenal rate – without regulation. As a result, many jiu-jitsu practitioners with widely varying skill levels have opened schools to capitalize on this demand. At best, these self-proclaimed instructors are competent sport jiu-jitsu practitioners. At worst, they are marginally skilled, lack depth of knowledge, or are simply poor instructors. To counter this disturbing trend, the Gracie Academy has launched the Certified Training Centers such as Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fort Collins aimed at perpetuating the techniques and principles of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in their purest form – as a method of self-defense.
In 1925, Carlos Gracie established the first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Brazil. In 1978, Rorion Gracie brought Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to the United States, and in 1989 he established the first Gracie Academy on North American soil in Torrance, California. In 2011 we started training and teaching directly with the Gracie family and established the first and only certified training center (CTC) in Fort Collins totally focused on practical, simple, and effective self-defense.
Today, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fort Collins is the only licensed and Certified Training Center in your area that can teach you the Gracie Combatives Program. This is the preferred self-defense program taught to our military and law enforcement across the land by our Gracie family leaders. . We teach not only the same techniques, but duplicate the teaching principles and methodology as taught by Grandmaster Helio Gracie. We invite you to join us on the mat at Gracie Fort Collins to learn first-hand what separates us from the rest!
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone! At Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fort Collins, we offer specialized programs for the entire family: Gracie Bullyproof for children (separate classes for 5-7 and 8-13 years old), Women Empowered for ladies only (coming Soon), Gracie Combatives for beginner adults, and the Master Cycle for advanced adults. For three generations, the Gracie family’s primary focus has been to teach jiu-jitsu in a way that is welcoming, safe, and easy for new students, especially those with no previous experience. Today, our patented teaching methods, unique programs, and welcoming introductory classes, allow anyone to experience the magic of martial arts without feeling intimidated or overwhelmed.
While Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fort Collins is famous for the quality of its group classes, it’s been proven that private training gives students maximum comprehension in the least amount of time. Private classes enable the instructor to teach the lessons in the order that will optimize learning and to adapt techniques to suit an individual’s strengths and weaknesses. Each private lesson begins with a review of previously learned techniques, followed by the introduction of 2-3 new techniques. Once you fully understand the new techniques, the instructor will show you how to combine them with previously learned techniques in a series of Reflex Development Drills. This process continues until you have mastered all the techniques in the module. Private classes offer maximum flexibility with daytime, evenings, weekdays, and weekends training opportunities. If it's convenient for you, it works for us. Moreover, if you can’t come to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fort Collins, we’ll come to you!

We also offer a striking program to round out your self-defense journey here at Gracie Fort Collins. Our in house blended system for striking is a recognized system taught and created by our family here. It is a blend of most of the popular striking arts out there such as muay thai, kenpo, kickboxing, karate, judo and jiu-jitsu. What we have done is taken what we feel is the best, out of all of these systems to create a fun fitness packed real striking art that applies today on the street. We will not waste your time with countless ineffective moves that don’t work. Though we feel strongly that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is the most effective self defense system on the planet we teach our system here to accompany the Jiu-Jitsu program. A lot of people find striking to be fun and great for fitness as well. Our system does have a full recognized rank system to black belt and beyond. We do require a minimum of a blue belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to be considered for a black belt in our system.
We are a Fort Collins Family owned business that has been serving the front range since 2010. Our goal and promise to the community is to give the best self defense training at the nicest and cleanest facility in Fort Collins.

The application of traditional Gracie Jiu-Jitsu transcends the application of chokes, joint locks, immobilizations, throws, and strikes. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a way of life. Beyond the mat, members of the Gracie family live balanced, healthy lives based on the same philosophy that governs their unique self-defense system. Grand Masters Carlos and Helio Gracie believed that the principles of efficiency, patience, and control held the key to success in all aspects of life.
Efficiency, the ability to achieve maximum output with minimum input, is a core principle of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. At the Gracie Academy, we assume that your attacker will always be larger and more athletic than you. Our students quickly learn that the only reliable way to succeed is to exhaust your attacker while conserving your own energy through the use of leverage-based techniques and natural body movements. In life, as in a fight, a student who learns to expend energy efficiently will achieve maximum results with minimal effort. For example,
•Eating healthily is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
•Being honest/respectful to others is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
•Being a hardworking/morally correct business person is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
•All of these are examples of ways to achieve maximum results with minimum effort.
Patience is often the key to success in a struggle against a larger opponent. Usually, it is not the person who attacks the most, but the one who exhausts the least who will win. Acting impulsively, aggressively, or without focus wastes energy. Patience also applies to timing. Even a perfectly executed technique will fail if attempted at the wrong time. In life, too, patience and timing enable you to “make your own luck” by calmly watching and waiting until the right moment when you can apply your energy most efficiently.
•Being patient with your friends and loved ones, as well as your enemies, is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
•Allowing impulses to pass before acting is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
•Taking a deep breath and considering all alternatives before committing is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
•Patience and timing allow you to know when to commit while efficiency ensures that you have sufficient energy to achieve your objective when the time is right for action.
The final objective in a fight is to impose your will on your opponent. Nothing achieves this more quickly than physical domination after which surrender usually follows. Physical domination means controlling your opponent. Without control, you risk losing the fight. In life, control applies not only to a simple contest between you and an opponent, but also to the struggle within yourself. Self-control reflects your personal discipline and is the foundation for every decision you make in life. Without self-control, you risk a lifetime of poor choices that invariably lead to tragic consequences.
•Refraining from using drugs or alcohol is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
•Choosing healthy, nutritious food over junk food is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
•Having the discipline to engage in regular exercise and rest is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
